Skara Brae is a stone-built Neolithic settlement, located on the Bay of Skaill on the west coast of Mainland (Scotland). Neolithic settlement has been discovered in 1850. accidentally after huge storm. William G. Watt, the local laird, when excavating a stone bed compartment in House 3 of the Neolithic village also discovered 5,000-year-old figurine. The figurine measures 9.5cm high by 7.5cm wide and it is nicknamed Skara Brae Buddo.
Watt’s find was briefly described as a “idol” or “fetish”. The long lost figurine from Skara Brae finally rediscovered in box. “Skara Brae Buddo”, is now being displayed for the first time in Stromness Museum alongside artefacts from Skara Brae that have not previously been displayed.
